The foveal region of the retina is "magnified" in V1 and takes most of the cortical area (as it can be seen in the top right figure). In the figure below we can see the relation between the distance of cortical representation and the degree of eccentricity in the retina. Thus, showing that the foveal region is magnified and the relation is not linear, but rather exponential.
